About Us

With almost 250 volunteers, AARP Foundation Tax-Aide Hawaii operates 36 sites throughout the state. During the 2015 tax season (Feb-Apr 2016) we provided free tax services to over 15,000 individuals, filing more than 8,000 state and federal tax returns.

Nationally, AARP Foundation Tax-Aide's over 35,000 volunteers served over 2.6 million individuals during the 2015 tax season.

Our training is focused on the tax needs of low and middle income taxpayers with special emphasis on the unique needs of senior citizens. However, we serve anyone who falls within the scope of our training.

Our sites are provided by various sponsors, including libraries, senior and community centers, and churches who allow us to use their facilities at no charge. Most sites are open one to two days per week, although some sites on Kauai are only open a few days during each season. Each site uses computers and tax preparation software to improve the accuracy of our returns and enable us to file both state and federal returns electronically.

AARP Foundation Tax-Aide is primarily sponsored by the IRS and the AARP Foundation (the nonprofit arm of AARP). The IRS provides grants from its Tax Counseling for the Elderly program as well as its Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program. While we receive support from the AARP Foundation, membership in AARP is not required, either to use our services or to participate as a volunteer.
